Summer Resource Guide
It’s time to start thinking about summer! We’ve compiled a list of activities you can sign your child up for and resources you can take advantage of during the 2024-25 summer break. Check it out:
FREE Activities
- Discovery Link Camps: summer camps for children ages three through 12 across Denver, featuring outdoor activities, arts, sports and field trips. The camp locations closest to McMeen are at Southmoor and Steele.
- My Spark Denver is now accepting eligible 5th graders transitioning into 6th grade! This program offers $1,000 for summer camps and after-school activities. If you currently have a 5th grader transitioning into 6th grade CLICK HERE.
Once you’re approved, you will receive your $1,000 debit card in the mail. Use this debit card to pay for activities at any of the My Spark Denver providers. Your My Spark Card can also be used to purchase equipment if the equipment is sold through the provider! Reach out to them at support@mysparkdenver.org if you have any additional questions.
Low-Cost Activities
- Summer Academy: An academic program open to rising first- through fifth-grade DPS students. Students will engage with content they will see in the upcoming school year, including literacy and math. Cost is $5 per day; contact Jean at jean_boylan@dpsk12.net if this poses a financial burden and she will help you with the cost. You can register through the Parent Portal.
FREE Resources
- DPS Family and Community Engagement (FACE) provides additional resources and activities for families and students. Visit the FACE resources page and the Youth Program Locator to find more community opportunities over the break.
- Library Services: Students have year-round access to books both online and in-person through DPS Library Services. Ensure your student continues building their reading skills by accessing books through libraries such as Sora and LION.
- My Denver Card: Youth ages five through 18 have free access to Denver’s recreation centers, swimming pools and cultural centers with their My Denver Card.
- The Denver Health Student-Based Health Clinics provides mental health support for students over the summer through a program called TRUST for those who may be suicidal or have violent ideation. TRUST stands for Therapeutic Response and Urgent Stabilization Team. TRUST operates year-round and provides access to different levels of services.
- The Denver Library has many great resources that can be checked out beyond books like Chromebooks through the DPL Library of Things.
You can find additional summer programming (including options with higher costs and options for middle and high school students) on the DPS Summer Programming page. I9 Sports offers sports camps as well.
