My name is Marcela Puerta, and I am an ELD teacher at McMeen Elementary. Originally from Medellín, Colombia, I come from a modest community and am the first teacher in my family. With over 10 years of experience teaching English as a foreign language in Colombia, I have worked with vulnerable populations, particularly in early childhood education, across various cities and towns. In addition, I spent 5 years teaching English as a second language in Salisbury, North Carolina, where I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year. I hold a Master of Arts in TESOL from Greensboro College. My passions are teaching, meditating, hiking, and reading.
