Students of Color in Technology (SOCIT), is a non-profit after-school STEM program founded in 2016. Every month, they teach and empower 3rd to 12th grade students of color across the Denver Metro area through Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) workshops. This 2023-2024 school year year, they are more excited than ever to ensure that we continue to prepare young leaders to pursue STEM education and become socially responsible leaders in our society. The Denver Public Schools’ Medicaid Department is here to help you apply or re-enroll in Medicaid services. You can set up a one-on-one appointment at any DPS school site for application assistance to free or low-cost health insurance, including Health First Colorado (Medicaid) and CHP+ and SNAP food assistance. Additionally, you can request assistance for your family with re-enrollment and utilization of your benefits. Appointments are available now and will be open year-round.

Colorado State University Extension’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (CSU EFNEP) provides research-based programs to help families make healthy food choices, be physically active and stretch their food dollars. They are currently looking for parents of preschool or elementary school students to participate in a research project about the impact of nutrition education programs. Individuals would receive up to $140 for their participation in this study.
They are inviting McMeen parents to participate as control subjects for this research project. Eligible participants would complete assessments to measure their risk of chronic disease 4 times during the next 14 months and then have the opportunity to enroll in their Eating Smart · Being Active lesson series next school year. Enrollment in future Eating Smart · Being Active lesson series is optional. Please see the attached flyers for details on eligibility, enrollment, participation requirements and monetary incentives.
