Value of the Month: Kindness
Posted February 4, 2025
At McMeen, we work with an organization called Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH) to help our students grow into leaders. We focus on a specific value every month; in February, we are focusing on kindness.
As we promote kindness here at school, we ask that you encourage kindness at home with your child! Here are some ways you might do so:
- Celebrate Kindness: Celebrate when your child displays kindness – even small celebrations go a long way. For example, if your child holds the door open for you, give them a high-five and thank them for the kind gesture. You can also create a “Kindness Wall” where you put up notes about kind acts your child did or saw. This will help your family celebrate their own acts of kindness as well as others’ acts of kindness.
- Create a Kindness Routine: Build kind acts into your child’s routine by creating a kindness challenge! Come up with a new challenge every week (or even every day). Challenges could be things like: “Say something nice to someone”, “Do something helpful for a family member,” or “Leave someone a thoughtful note.”
- Volunteer: Volunteering shows your child the importance of helping others. Help your child donate their time or items. For example, go through your child’s closet together and pick out 5 items they don’t use anymore to donate. Or: help your child write and mail cards for hospital patients.
