Dear McMeen Families,
Welcome to another fantastic year at McMeen! I am excited to be your new principal and look forward to getting to know each you. For those of you knew to McMeen, like me, I am so excited that you have chosen a premier elementary school in Denver! I want to take this opportunity to share more about me as well as our goals for continuing to make McMeen the best school in Denver.
I possess 14 years of educational experience spanning grades K-8. Serving as a middle school Assistant Principal at Hill Campus of Arts & Sciences, and Principal Resident at Cowell Elementary, both here in Denver, has shaped my most recent school leadership experiences. Prior to my time in Denver, I served as an elementary literacy coach and teacher with DeKalb Schools in Georgia. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, I knew early on that teaching and learning was my passion and pursued an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Michigan State University – Go Spartans!
The passion and fire that I began my career with still burns strong and I plan to work alongside the McMeen staff to continue the legacy of success established by building strong relationships with students, parents, staff and community partners. As a team, we will focus on enhancing our instructional programming by ensuring that we create a robust learning environment in each classroom, while fostering a united and safe school environment. I anticipate a successful 2017-2018 school year, as the team plans to support the academic, social and emotional growth of each student in order to prepare them to be global citizens in the 21st century.
Over the next few weeks, our office staff will be working diligently to implement systems to better serve you, while ensuring we are communicating with all families regarding the happenings at McMeen. Did you know that you could save time and by emailing us at McMeen_Elemenatry@dpsk12.org? Our office staff will be responding to messages throughout the day. Additionally, beginning the second week of school, you will begin receiving “The McMeen Informed” or the TMI – Parent Edition. This will serve as our weekly parent newsletter. If you did not sign up for our newsletter during registration, please shoot us an email requesting to be added. And the ultimate way to stay informed is our new McMeen App! Our expected launch date is at Back to School Night! Be there to see how our school is leading the way – thank you to our PTO for sponsoring the purchase of this new communication tool. And as always, check our website at http://mcmeen.dpsk12.org/.
I look forward to seeing each you at our first Parent Teacher Leadership Team (CSC) scheduled for September 11th at 5:30pm. Child care and translation will be provided.
Now that summer has rapidly neared an end, we are looking forward to welcoming back all of our students and families. Remember Back to School Night will be on August 18th from 5:30 -7:30pm. Kindergarten families will have an orientation on August 18th at 8:00 am. You are stilled welcome to join the fun at Back to School Night.
